Caner Can is an accomplished energy professional, with over two decades of experience in the field.
He is currently serving as Adviser to H.E. Dr. Alparslan Bayraktar, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Türkiye.
Previously, Caner was Energy Counselor at the Permanent Delegation of Türkiye to the EU in Brussels (January 2022 - October 2024) and at the Turkish Consulate General in Houston, Texas (September 2015 - October 2019), during his tenure at the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Throughout his career, Caner has represented Türkiye at major global energy organizations, including the International Energy Agency (IEA), the International Renewable Energy Agency, CERN, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and the G20 Energy Sustainability Working Group.
Caner holds a Master of Excellence in Regulation of Gas Markets from the Florence School of Regulation at the European University Institute. His MA Dissertation, completed at the School of Economics and Social Sciences at TOBB ETU University, focused on the dynamics of natural gas trade between the EEC/the European Union and the USSR/the Russian Federation. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. from the University of Groningen. He is studying the impact of energy transition on foreign policy and energy security in the EU and his main focus is the new energy architecture of the EU and the role of critical raw materials in this paradigm shift.
Caner has delivered lectures at several esteemed universities including the University of Groningen, the Rice University, the University of Houston, and the Texas Southern University. He has been renowned for engaging and insightful presentations at international energy conferences.
He has authored numerous articles, book chapters, and reports on energy security and geopolitics, and possesses a deep understanding of global energy trends. Caner is fluent in English and Spanish.
