As a son of a military officer, Jay started traveling the world at a young age, while born in Germany, Jay also has Canadian and US citizenships. Jay is an engineer by education having a Systems Design Engineering degree from the University of Waterloo, and also a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of New Brunswick, Canada. Over the last 25 years, Jay has worked extensively in both Canada and the United States while residing in Portsmouth, NH. Having worked for such companies as Irving Oil, DSM and Sprague Operating Resources, Jay took on a variety of different roles that included the responsibility for Health, Safety and Environment (HSE), Government Relations, Renewable Energy Development, Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility. While working at Sprague, Jay pioneered and led the development of the first Solar Storage Tank, in which he accepted the “Sustainable Impact” Tank Storage Award in 2020 on behalf of the company. Most recently, Jay has taken on the role as Head of Corporate HSE and Sustainability for Hartree Partners. Hartree Partners is a global company focusing on the physical and financial energy and commodities markets, while providing a wide range of services to a substantial and diversified customer base that includes corporations, financial institutions, governments, and individuals. Founded in 1997, the firm is headquartered in New York and maintains offices and operating assets within the terminal, power generation, renewable, refining, shipping, logistics and distribution industries from around the world. Jay is getting back to his international travel as he works to support, build, lead and enhance the HSE and Sustainability teams across the Hartree organization. Outside of the day to day work responsibilities, Jay is a co-chair on the EHS Committee for the International Liquid Terminals Association (ILTA) and is an avid hockey coach and player.
